About North Yorkshire Sport
North Yorkshire Sport comprises of the Districts of Craven, Hambleton, Ryedale Richmondshire and Selby, the Boroughs of Scarborough and Harrogate and the City of York.
In 1999 North Yorkshire Sport (NYS) was established by the 8 Local Authorities in North Yorkshire together with the County Council and York St John University.
Although originally formed to deliver Sport England’s Active Sport Programme, the Partnership has developed a more extensive role, providing a strategic approach to the delivery of, and the investment in, sporting structures and programmes across North Yorkshire.
In 2004, its structure was revised to establish a Chief Officer strategy Group (COSG) and to update the roles of the 2 sub groups, the Sports Development Forum (SDF) and the Physical Education and Sports School Clubs Links Group (PESSCL Group). This structure has been further revised through the Strategy and Business plan to include the establishment of a Board and the reorganisation of the COSG in to a Steering Group.
North Yorkshire Sport was declared a "Fit for Purpose" County Sports Partnership in April 2006.
