Amateur Swimming Association - North East Region - Regional Chairman
As the number one participation sport for adults in England, with over 20m people swimming every year, the ASA is dedicated to giving more people – young and old, more opportunities to swim for fun and for health whilst also supporting athletes to achieve gold medal success on the world stage.
Applications are therefore invited from suitably experienced individuals - passionate about sport - who possess the drive, commitment and acumen to perform the key strategic role of Chairman of the Regi
This is an exciting opportunity to influence and lead the future development of aquatics – swimming, water polo, diving and synchronised swimming - at all levels and to drive the ongoing modernisation of the sport across the region up to 2013. The ASA North East Region encompasses the two Sport England regions - the North East and Yorkshire & Humberside - stretching from Berwick in Northumberland to the north and to Sheffield and north-east Lincolnshire in the south.
Key responsibilities include working with the Board and Regional Director to ensure that the region grows, develops and delivers strongly against its strategic plan and operational priorities linked to the ASA’s 09-13 national strategy, and that the sport is stronger and better placed for the following quadrennial.
The Chairman has the responsibility for presiding over meetings of the Regional Management Board and the Annual Council Meeting and working with, supporting and monitoring the performance of the Regional Director, in relation to his duties.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate proven leadership and management skills, have operated extensively at a senior strategic level, have experience of managing change and have led the development of business into new markets.
The appointment is for a four-year term from September 2010. The role of Chairman is currently a voluntary role with all expenses paid.
