Equity
Sports Equity is about fairness in Sport, equality of access, recognizing inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to all members of society, whatever their age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or socio-economic status.
At North Yorkshire Sport we are passionate about providing widened access and reducing inequalities for everyone participating in Sport or Physical Activity across North Yorkshire. This is promoted through both our actions and attitudes. In the next 12 months a mechanism for the continued drive for Equity in North Yorkshire will be achieved through the implementation of the Equality Standard.

The Equality Standard is a framework developed to assist sports organisations to widen access and reduce inequalities in sport and physical activity from under representative individuals groups and communities, especially women & girls, ethnic minority groups and disabled people. The standard helps assess the performance of the County Sports Partnership on all aspects of equality.
The Standard will enable North Yorkshire Sport to:
- Provide a framework for achieving equality in sport.
- Ensure democracy and the sound governance of the sport
- Increase the number of participants, members, coaches, officials, spectators and volunteers.
- Help meet legal duties
- Enhance the skills and knowledge base of Staff and Volunteers
- Increase active involvement in equality at every level
- Improve equality practices through monitoring and evaluation and review methods
- Improve chances of accessing funding and sponsorship
North Yorkshire Sport is fully supportive of the Equality Standard and look forward to working with partners, to achieve foundation level by March 2007. The Standard is a significant step towards making provision of sport in the United Kingdom fair, just and equal.

Fairness & Inclusion
In the continued strive to achieve equality in sport the actions we take as individuals, in our clubs or in our organisations is increasingly important. In order to help this process Sport England have provided an online training programme. This not only provides invaluable information, but the opportunity for you to plan how you can action these values within your community.
