The support of York St John, will allow 1200 young people from across York and North Yorkshire to represent their district in a variety of different sports, ranging from cheerleading to swimming to tag rugby. Each young person has earned the right to represent their district through the School Sport Competitions that are organised across North Yorkshire. From each of these festivals the best team will progress until they reach the Youth Games. For some of the teams the journey has already started, and for most the journey to the Youth Games will begin in February and culminate in July.

Pauline Gacal, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at York St John University, said: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with North Yorkshire Sport in supporting the North Yorkshire Youth Games. Not only does it provide an opportunity for our students to be involved as volunteers supporting local school sports activities, but also in coaching budding sports stars and raising aspirations amongst local school children to consider higher education in the future. This is an exciting development and will lead to further collaboration to improve participation in sport across the county.”


With York St John on board the future of the Youth Games is safe, and this event can continue to be the pinnacle of sporting excellence in North Yorkshire. Allowing the region to continue providing a showcase event for young people, some of whom will go on to represent Yorkshire or even England.
