Active Forest @ Dalby
North Yorkshire Sport are delighted to launch a new partnership with the Forestry Commission to deliver a new and exciting Sport England funded programme, 'Active Forest'. Active Forest is a project aimed at encouraging people to come and be more physically active in forests across the UK. North Yorkshire Sport will be working closely with Dalby Forest in Ryedale to encourage people to participate in a variety of activities creating a 'sporting habit for life'.
Dalby Forest is located on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park covering over 8,000 acres of woodland including cycle routes, play areas for children, barbecues for the family and plenty of cycling and walking trails for all abilities. It is a fantastic location with plenty of activities to take part in as well as exciting new and existing events to get involved in.
Currently Dalby forest has several play on the day activities which you get involved in at the visitor centre including football, volleyball and soft archery. All free to use just a great opportunity to get involved in sport. In addition to this, we have many events both cycling, running and team events coming up, so have a look at our website and see what you can get involved in.
One of our first Active Forest events ran on September 19th. The event was a great success with six teams competing in the Business Games. For more information about this event please go to the North Yorkshire Business Games page
For more information about Dalby Forest take a look at their website www.forestry.gov.uk/dalbyforest .
Why not take time to complete our survey and be in for a chance to win a £200 Cotswold Outdoor Voucher with 5 runners up receiving an annual Discovery Pass membership!
North Yorkshire Sport Chief Executive David Watson says of the partnership : " We have been involved with the Forestry Commission for a number of years, not least supporting the bid that took the Mountain Bike World Cup to Dalby a few years ago, but this is the first time we will have worked on a programme together to get people enjoying the forest for sport and physical activity. We are very excited by what we believe is a unique partnership and the opportunities it will provide to both residents of North Yorkshire and visitors to the area. I would encourage anyone who is looking to try out a sport in a non-traditional environment to get in touch with our new officer Amy and find out how you can get involved."
If you are interested in volunteering within the 'Active Forest' project or your organisation would like some more information about how to get involved, please get in touch with Amy Garrett
