School badminton teams from across North Yorkshire battled for a place in the regional finals of the School Games today, with teams from Ermysteds, Malton and Wensleydale taking the winning titles.

Taking place at York Railway Institute, the tournament saw girls and boys from both Key Stage 3 and 4, compete for the four winning spots. The competition included a mixture of singles and doubles games, and some extremely close matches took place throughout the day, with the KS4 Girls final being particularly nail biting. The winner was to be crowned from the best of 5 games, and going into the final game with 2 games each the contest was excruciatingly close. However, Wensleydale pipped Huntington to the post to gain victory and win a place in the regional final.

Lucy Psarias, Sports Development Manager for North Yorkshire Sport said "The day has been fantastic, with some really close and well fought battles. Well done to everyone who took part, and a big congratulations to all of the winners – we will see you at the next round!".

Today's winners will now go on to compete in the Yorkshire finals taking place on Wednesday 7th March 2018 at the same venue, and if successful will also compete in the national round following this. Good luck to Ermysteds, Malton and Wensleydale in the regional round!
