George does ironman
On July 4th 2021, our Head of Development George Cull will be taking part in an Ironman Triathlon in Bolton.
The ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride, followed by a 26.2 mile run (aka a marathon).
The event is one of the ultimate physical and mental tests and for George it is the culmination of a few years training.
From deciding to do the event a few years back George has had to re-learn how to swim, enrolling on adult swimming lessons. From there has has joined a Tri-club (Tri Bramley Baths in Leeds) and also joined a cycling club (Bramley Wheelers).
There has also been the disruption caused by Covid, with the original intention to complete the event in 2020. The additional year has provided more opportunity to train and try and work on swimming technique and power on the bike.
With just weeks to go to the event, George completed the Leeds Triathlon in early June, using the event as a practice of doing all 3 disciplines together.
George has been a driving force behind the launch of the North Yorkshire Sport fundraising causes and believes strongly in the value of being active to help manage good mental health.
