Great North Run 2020

North Yorkshire Sport are appealing for runners to support our drive to improve mental health through sport by taking part in a virtual Great North Run on Sunday 13th September.

Like many of us, North Yorkshire Sport are disappointed to learn about the (unavoidable) cancellation of the 40th Great North Run on September 13th 2020.

The organisers are pressing ahead with a virtual Great North Run event which will take place on Sunday 13th September and involve any adult running the 13.1 miles distance from their own doorstep.

The official launch date and entry process will be announced on Monday 3rd August.

How can I get involved?

How your fundraising will help

1 in 4 of us are affected by mental health problems and with your support we can train sports clubs and providers in mental health awareness as well as supporting people in the county to become physically active to help manage their mental health.

As well as support around promotion of your fundraising efforts through our social media and blogs we are also exploring an incentive offer. Entry to the virtual event is free but there is additional merchandise to purchase such as t-shirts. Once the details of the merchandise are confirmed we will release our incentive offer.

How do I sign up?

Please feel free to set up your own fundraising page and start promoting to friends, family and colleagues for sponsorship.

We also want to hear from you if you are going to run so we can contact you about our fundraising incentive offer. We may also be able to share your story with the local media. Please email with the subject title of 'Virtual Great North Run 2020'
