North Yorkshire Sport at Great Yorkshire Show 2015
North Yorkshire Sport hosts activities at the Get into Sport Zone
Since 2008 North Yorkshire Sport have been invited to the the Great Yorkshire Show to deliver the Get into Sport zone. Each year we invite partners to come along and provide high quality come and try activities for both adults and young people.
Year on year we have expanded our space and increased the number of opportunities that are on offer to visitors and this year was no exception. Activities included Cycling, Fencing, Javelin, Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia, Nordic Walking and Orienteering.
There really is something for everyone and is an opportunity for young people, parents and even grandparents to try a new sporting activity for the first time.
Are you interested in providing an activity at next year's Great Yorkshire Show? (Tuesday 12 - Thursday 14 July 2016)
The event is not only great for visitors it's a fantastic opportunity for Local Clubs and sporting organisations along with National Governing Bodies for Sport to showcase what they have on offer and encourage participants to try something new.
This year Harrogate Fencing Club said 'It's the Best thing we have done! Great event and great opportunity to boost the club and the profile of the sport in the area and surrounding catchments. Great organisation from NYS'
British Orienteering had approximately 900 children and adults try the Xplorer grid. The event allowed them to build the public awareness of orienteering and Xplorer activities that will be happening in their area over summer. It also gave an opportunity for Yorkshire & Humberside Orienteering Club members to volunteer and to engage with the public to promote their club.
British Orienteering Major Events Organiser Sally Pygott said that 'Being in the education zone was a fantastic location for British Orienteering and having the space to allow children and adults to try the Xplorer grid as a taster to orienteering was excellent. Thank you to North Yorkshire Sport for giving us the opportunity.
