Brief Sporting History:

Active in the outdoors organising and running personal development programmes using outdoor activities to enhance personal growth. Organised and managed numerous expeditions, open canoe trips with groups of young people paddling the length of the Caledonian canal. Mountain expeditions in the High Tatras (Poland Slovakia) Scotland and the Lake District, trekking in the Himalayas. Competed in marathon canoe races in k1, k2 and open canoe class team events coming first on two occasions.

Competed in the canoe polo northern league division two, developing a club from base roots into an organised and structured club, with functioning roles (Chair Treasurer and Secretary).

Caving and climbing experience in the Yorkshires Dales, Peak District, and Scotland

Organised and led accredited Sports Leadership Training and Basic Expedition Training Awards programmes.

Recreational surf boarder, paddling predominantly mini malls and long boards. Surfed North East England/Scotland/ Cornwall and Australia

Experienced and well versed with policy development, e.g Data Protection, Child Protection, Equality & Diversity etc. Fulfilled a Senior Management role supporting and supervising staff undertaking risk assessments which included sports and adventure-based activities. Extensive experience with recruiting and supporting volunteers, matching volunteers with suitable placements developing and implementing good practices and policies. Development and delivery of mentoring programmes provided to volunteers, staff and young people. Support and guidance provided to volunteer groups enabling them to function with structured roles, (Chair, Treasurer, Secretary). Development of long term plans to ensure sustainability of volunteer activity groups. 15 Years as a Trustee for a national youth charity.
