On Thursday 25th August the weather held up for Dalby Forest's Dalby Sports Day. North Yorkshire Sport, England Netball, Scarborough and Ryedale Community Cycling and the Armed Forces teamed up with the Dalby Forest team to put on a free festival of sport.
Families joined in the sporting fun with volleyball, golf, netball, climbing and cycling. Whilst all the sports were just for fun, family races began at the cycling with Rob's fantastic adapted bikes. Participants were challenged to a time trial lap of the short course, with the fastest time being set at just 19 seconds!
The Armed Forces brought along their climing wall which set a challenge for everyone to have a go at reaching the top. Although many gave it a go, only one managed the feat and the crowd cheered as he descended down the wall.
Parents commented it was "a great day out", "so much fun" and "it's great to let [my children] have a go at all these different sports, they've tried things they haven't before. We especially loved the bikes!"
Dalby Forest and North Yorkshire Sport are looking forward to holding another event in the near future. Amy Garratt, who works for both organisations said; "we love to see people up here in the forest and trying new fun ways to be active. The Dalby Sports Day is just fabulous, to see all these kids having such fun is what we want. We're hoping we can do another in the October half term, if not before."
