An action-packed day of sport took place at University of York today, with three exciting North Yorkshire School Games events bringing together hundreds of primary and secondary school children. The day saw a Dance Festival, Outdoor Sport Festival and a Year 7 Netball event.
Teams made up of both girls and boys from key stage 3 and 4 showcased their dance skills at today's energetic dance festival. Upbeat, feel good tunes were specifically edited for the event which created a motivating and energetic atmosphere. Following a group warm up, attendees had a mass group dance introduction, followed by a separate breakout performance. The day ended with a fantastic group performance of the final dance routine.
The Outdoor Festival provided students from year 5 & 6 with a jam-packed day of exciting activities. The fun filled day included team races, individual races and 4 exciting main events; Outdoor Adventure Activities, Laser Run, Orienteering and Archery. Each student had the opportunity to take part in all of the activities, providing each individual the chance to try something new and use a wide range of skills.
In an incredible week for the popular sport, year 7 teams from all over North Yorkshire participated in a competitive Netball Event, also at the University of York. With some very close and exciting matches, Harrogate's St Aidan's CE High School were the victorious winners of the event, followed by Ryedale School in 2nd and Cundall Manor School in 3rd. A big well done to the St Aidan's team! The results from this event are available here.
Organiser of the event Lucy Psarias from North Yorkshire Sport commented on how great the 3 events were "Thank you to all participants for taking part in some really exciting events, it was great to see lots of fantastic performances and a wide range of skills being used from all individuals".
St Aidan's Year 7 Netball team will now compete in the Yorkshire regional final on Monday 30th April 2018 at EIS, Sheffield.
