School Games Inclusive Swimming Event

An Inclusive Swimming event took place at York Sport Village today. The School Games event for primary school children in key stage 2 saw pupils from all North Yorkshire districts hit the pool for several exciting races.

The inclusive School Games competition included 10 different thrilling races with all athletes competing in 2 races, an individual race and a team relay. The first two races of the day were the Boys and Girls 25m Breaststroke. Next up was the Boys and Girls 25m Freestyle Inclusion race, this particular pathway is designed to encourage the inclusion of all swimmers with varying disabilities and swimmers were able to choose their own stroke.

Shortly after, the Boys and Girls 25m Backstroke and 25m Front Crawl took place. This was followed with the final races of the day, the 25M Mixed Medley Inclusion and the 25M Mixed Medley Freestyle races. On a day with some incredibly close races, all students and teachers were extremely supportive and showed great sportsmanship.

The event closed with a presentation of medals to the teams finishing in the top 3, with Pannal Primary School finishing in 3rd and Scarcroft Primary School in 2nd place. A big congratulations to the overall winners of the day Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy, who were presented with medals and the winners' trophy. We would like to congratulate all of the winners and thank all participants for a fantastic competition. All schools will be emailed a School Games certificate to award to their participants.
