Schools Across Yorkshire and the Humber Recognised at Primary PE Premium Awards

Primary Schools from across Yorkshire and the Humber were honoured at the the 3rd Annual Yorkshire PE Premium Awards on Friday.
The 20 winning schools from across Yorkshire and Humber attended the Harrogate Pavilions ceremony to receive their awards, presented by Olympic athlete and Commonwealth gold medallist Craig Heap (pictured left) and MBE, T34 Gold medal winning Paralympian and ten times world champion Hannah Cockcroft (pictured middle). VIP attendees from sponsors Sheffield Hallam University, as well as representatives from Department for Education (DfE) Sport England and Youth Sport Trust were also on hand for the occasion, with special guest Ray Matthews (pictured right).
The PE and Sport Premium funding is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils and help schools to achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.
The vision of the PE and Sport Premium is that all pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
The 2018 awards recognise schools that have innovated and endeavoured to provide improved outcomes for pupils using the Primary PE and Sport Premium grant.
All schools from across Yorkshire and Humber had the opportunity to submit best practice case studies demonstrating the impact of the PE premium grant in five category areas;
- Pupil engagement in physical activity
- Whole school improvement
- Up-skilling staff
- Broader sporting experience
- Increased participation competitive sport
North Yorkshire Winners were:
Selby Abbey C of E primary school – Pupil Engagement in Physical Activity
Bolton on Swale St Marys CofE Primary School – Up-Skilling staff
Carleton Endowed CE Primary School – Broader Sporting Experience
Brotherton And Byram CP Academy – Increased participation in competitive school sport
Michael Syddall CofE Primary School – Whole School Improvement
The Yorkshire PE and Sport Awards have been a collaborative project delivered by North Yorkshire Sport, Active Humber and Yorkshire Sport Foundation. Each of the 3 county sports partnerships had a winning case study in each of the 5 categories and put these forward to be the overall Yorkshire winners. The Yorkshire Awards were designed to showcase best practice in PE and School Sport in the region, with National experts in education and sport judging the 2018 Awards.
