North Yorkshire Sport launch Active Parks consultation

North Yorkshire Sport have launched a 6 week consultation to test and understand the concept of 'Active Parks'.

There are many benefits of being active in local parks and green spaces. Fields in Trust recent research 'Revaluing Parks and Green Spaces' shows the wellbeing associated with frequent use of local parks and green spaces is worth £34.2 billion per year to the entire UK adult population, and saves the NHS £111m per year based on reduction in number of GP visits.

North Yorkshire is blessed with iconic outdoor spaces such as our National Parks, National Trust, the coast and Dalby Forrest, but over 2/3rds of people will first experience the outdoors in an environment that is within 2 miles of their house. This places an importance on local parks and open spaces being welcoming and encouraging of physical activity of all levels.

The consultation seeks to understand the views of professionals, public and voluntary sector representatives as well as residents to build a blueprint of what an active park may look like and will be used to work with willing parks to test and activate the findings.
