Get ON Track Scarborough Community Event Success

Young people from Scarborough have been inspiring the community this week they laid on a
free 'Healthy Body Healthy Mind' event at The Street in Scarborough which was open to anyone
in the local area.

The young people enrolled on the North Yorkshire Sport/Dame Kelly Holmes Trust Get ON
Track programme have been working with sporting mentors since February to increase their
activity levels as well as their employability and confidence.

As part of the course they are tasked with organising a community event, and they chose to put
on free taster sessions in 4 sports, and attracted local people aged 7 to 76 to come and take
part! Even better all the clubs involved volunteered their time for free.

The community could try a free taster session in 4 different sports; Boccia (Scarboccia Club),
Kickboxing (Extreme Kickboxing Scarborough), Yoga (Becky Hildreth Yoga and Fitness),
Chairobics (Lesley Smith).

The event was aimed at the local community providing activities everyone can get involved with
and also aimed to raise awareness of mental health conditions.
Refreshments were available for a donation and the £60.13 made was donated to Scarborough
Survivors – a charity who have helped some of the young people on the Get on Track
Programme.

Hannah Green, a young person on the Get ON Track programme and main organiser of the
event said "It was fantastic to see so many young people there for a good cause and to be able
to give back to a charity that's helped me so much! It was also really nice to hear people talking
about mental health and getting involved in activities they haven't tried before ".

Jody Ivel from North Yorkshire Sport said, " This group have been working hard, and it's great to
see how far they have come, and also what a great event they managed to pull off. Get ON
Track has been successful in other areas of North Yorkshire and we're glad to have been able
to bring it to Scarborough where we know there is a need ."
