People of North Yorkshire challenged to start the new year with a fundraising challenge

As the dust settles on 2021, North Yorkshire Sport are encouraging the population to start the new year on a high by signing up to support mental health in the county by taking on an iconic fundraising challenge.

Targeting an event is a great motivator for those new year fitness goals and North Yorkshire Sport are looking for fundraisers to sign up to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks walk in July 2022, or the Great North Run in September 2022.

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks is an iconic 24 mile walk which takes on the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. This bucket list challenge is a 'must do' to truly sample some of the most wonderful views on offer in Yorkshire. The charity walk will take place on Friday 8th July and will be supported by staff from North Yorkshire Outdoor Learning Service who will be leading the groups.

The Great North Run is the world biggest half marathon, starting in Newcastle and finishing on the coast at South Shields and including crossing the famous Tyne Bridge, with this event taking place on Sunday 11th September.

North Yorkshire Sport are a local based charity who are focused on driving positive change through sport and physical activity. Supporting mental health is one of the priorities to achieve this and funds raised will help to support projects across the county and provide training to the workforce in understanding mental health.

George Cull, Head of Development at North Yorkshire Sport, said "The new year is an ideal time to sign up to a new challenge, to push yourself and to work towards something. The feeling of achievement that you get from completing the challenge is unrivalled. With the challenges we are facing at the moment we need to do more to support mental health and what better way to do it than to use physical activity challenges to raise funds."

Demand is expected to be high for both of these events, to find out more and sign up please visit www.nysfundraising.co.uk
