North Yorkshire Sport’s Older People Physical Activity Service
Funding from North Yorkshire County Council's Public Health and Stronger Communities teams has enabled North Yorkshire Sport in partnership with the network of Age UK's across North Yorkshire develop a community based physical activity service for older people. The service has been designed to help reduce falls and support increased physical activity levels through participation in age appropriate activities and sport.
Working closely with the counties health professionals including Public Health, Clinical Commissioning Groups, GP's, practice nurses, physiotherapies, OT's etc. we will develop a single point of contact for individuals and professionals to refer to. The initial information and contact details retrieved will be passed on to the local Age UK service who will conduct a more thorough consultation with the individual to identify their exercise needs, 1:1 support requirements and signpost to the most appropriate service.
There are two services:
The Targeted Service - Across the county, NYS will set up 15 targeted sessions in locations which will be accessible to the greatest number of people. This service is for those more at risk of trips or falls, and will benefit them by improving their stability and confidence.
North Yorkshire Sport are seeking multiple delivery partners to manage the targeted services in different localities across the region. Financial and in-kind support will be offered to successful applications. If your organisation is interested in finding out more, please click below and fill in the expression of interest form.
The Universal Service - The universal service seeks to signpost participants into suitable existing opportunities such as aqua aerobics, Tai Chi, walking for health etc, or if there is a demand will look to set up a suitable activity session. Click below to find out more.
