An Overview of Gymnastics

Gymnastics covers many different disciplines.

All are skilled and challenging and require physical strength, agility and co-ordination. Under the overall description of gymnastics lie the individual disciplines and activities of:

  • Men's artistic Gymnastics (includes high bar, parallel bars, rings, floor, vault and pommel horse)
  • Women's Artistic gymnastics (includes uneven bars, beam, floor and vault)
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics
  • Trampoline and Tumbling Gymnastics
  • Acrobatic Gymnastics

British Gymnastics provides a national directive and structure for the sport; delivering a range of opportunities across the age spectrum to take part and stay in gymnastics, as well as developing talent and delivering top-level success.

Gymnastics is an accessible and inclusive sport offering opportunities to all ability levels and ethnic groups within a range of controlled learning environments. It promotes an active and healthy lifestyle and is recognised as forming the basis for physical literacy by developing fundamental movement skills.

YMCA are looking for an experienced individual to join our coaching team. They will be required to coach a range of classes including; recreational, competition and assist with our tumbling and freestyle sessions.

Lead Coach - Gymnastics

An exciting opportunity has arisen at York City Gymnastics Foundation to join the coaching team. YCGF are looking for a motivated individual / individuals who enjoy working with children and have a passion for the sport of gymnastics.

A range of hours is available for a lead coach role in girls, boys, trampoline and pre-school gymnastics. Normal business hours are Mon-Thu 9am-9:15pm, Fri 9am-6.30pm and Sat 9am-2.30pm during class terms. Out of class terms YCGF operate a reduced programme of gymnastics. Working hours will be largely dependent on the gymnastics qualifications a successful candidate holds and will be to “business needs”.

Gymnastics Coach

Your role as a Gymnastics Coach is to deliver practical Gymnastic sessions for school programmes i.e curriculum support, lunch time clubs, after-school clubs and Multi-Sports Camps throughout the holidays. Increased hours are available throughout holiday periods.

We are in need of recruiting a Level 2 coach to help with planning and running sessions.

Gymnastics Coach - Community and Satellite Clubs

We have an exciting opportunity to join our successful team, expanding our offer into the community by working with schools and running satellite sessions around the local area. The role will also include coaching within our gymnastics for all (GFA) and pre-school sessions at our gymnastics centre, The Base. Hours will include daytime, evening and some weekend work. Some of the days/times are flexible and can be negotiated at interview stage. This role also has the potential to develop more hours and become full time.
