York Physical Activity and Sports Strategy
North Yorkshire Sport have been commissioned by the Public Health team at City of York Council to lead the development of a 'Physical Activity and Sport' strategy for the city.
The strategy will look at how more people can be encouraged to be physically active as well as exploring how sport and physical activity can help support other agendas within the city (EG reducing loneliness and isolation, improving the management of conditions etc).
Consultation process - stage 1
The first part of the consultation process is to gain a deep understanding of the city, the people, the communities and the organisations who operate in it. Not all of those consulted will be involved in physical activity and sport, but may have a deep understanding about people or place which will be valuable in developing a strategy that truly delivers on a number of agenda's.
Partner consultation event - Wednesday 5th June 2019
North Yorkshire Sport will be hosting 2 partner consultation sessions on Wednesday 5th June at York Sports Club, Clifton Park, Shipton Road, York, YO30 5RE.
The sessions will run as follows:
Session 1 - 10am - 12pm
This session is for partners who are currently involved in providing sport and physical activity in a professional capacity. During this session we will be understanding more about the challenges within the city, what works well in engaging inactive people and what stops people accessing your services. We will also spend some time thinking about what a vision could be for the city.
Session 2 - 1pm - 3pm
This session is for partner organisations within the city who are not directly involved in delivery of sport and physical activity, but are more directly involved in working with groups of people or in communities within the city. This session will look at the challenges within the city, how you engage people within your service and what the barriers are for those people, before finishing off with exploring some visioning for the city.
